Digi Care Health UK Launches in Warrington
The highly anticipated launch of Digi Care Health UK took place on Friday 7th February at Warrington & Vale College, celebrating a major leap forward in digital healthcare innovation.
It was a resounding success, with fantastic turnout from representatives of the local college, local authority, NHS, media and neighbouring councils who wanted to learn more about the pilot program.
Digi Care has ambitious plans to enhance wellbeing and healthcare access for 29,000 households in Warrington. If the pilot is successful, it’s set to become a national model for community-based healthcare solutions.
Collaborative combination of community and technology
Representatives from Warrington Borough Council, NHS leaders, public health officials, and technology partners like Future Connected Fibre came together at the event to discuss the impact of the project.
Attendees were given an in-depth look at how Digi Care Health UK will use advanced digital infrastructure, telecare, and telemedicine to transform healthcare access and support wider community wellbeing.
Key speakers at the event included Professor Steven Broomhead MBE, Chief Executive of Warrington Council, who emphasised that this project marks a major step forward for the community. “By combining cutting-edge technology with a focus on prevention, Digi Care Health UK will improve health outcomes and quality of life for thousands of residents.”
Warrington South MP Sarah Hall praised the collaborative nature of the initiative, noting that it demonstrates how government, healthcare providers, and local organisations can work together to create meaningful change.
Social Care as a local issue
Warrington North MP Charlotte Nichols also expressed excitement about the initiative, noting that social care is vitally important to her constituents. But, while people often bring up nationwide social care issues on the doorstep, Nichols believes that it’s local initiatives like Digi Care that will make the biggest difference to people.
“The biggest thing is around the connectivity of homes,” Charlotte explains, “because there’s a lot of technology that’s increasingly being used – like things that can monitor falls – and we need to make sure those are connected to the people who are providing care.”
Vision for a healthier future
Another speaker excited about the launch was Dave Thompson, the CEO of Warrington Disability Partnership, who has been working on this project for eight years.
He explains that “for us, it’s about bringing together solutions for prevention, solutions for safety, and solutions for independence.”
He also explains that Digi Care has come at exactly the right time, as the UK is on the cusp of a big wave in digital technology and healthcare.
“Neighbourhood health services are the way forward. A shift from hospital to community care is in the NHS’s ten-year plan, and (Digi Care) fits exactly with that particular model – and with one of the NHS’s other shifts, which is towards digital.”
Building the digital future of healthcare
One of the most innovative aspects of Digi Care is its high-speed fibre broadband rollout, which will support the transition from analogue to digital healthcare systems. This infrastructure will enable:
Expanded telecare and telemedicine services
Mental health support programs
Enhanced community safety initiatives
The foundation for a new Neighbourhood Health Service.
Shaun Ennis, Managing Director of Digi Care Health UK, expressed excitement about the initiative’s future. “This project is revolutionary for the UK and will provide essential support to the healthcare system. Warrington is just the beginning – we look forward to expanding this model, and improving thousands of lives.”
DigiCare: a strong foundation for lasting impact
February’s successful launch event has set the stage for Digi Care to make a lasting difference. With its multi-sector partnerships and focus on innovation, this initiative is not just a milestone for Warrington but a blueprint for the future of healthcare across the UK.
As the project progresses, it is expected to bring tangible improvements in health outcomes, digital access, and community wellbeing – proving that the future of healthcare is both digital and community-focused.
